Before you do any scrying-of any kind-inhale the scent deeply and shake the jar gently

Fire Scrying

Cast the Fires

This is a way to utilize the fire element with your cauldron spells. It’s a general purpose blessing to bring some new energy into your home and your life.

Your cauldron
A few shredded bits of white paper
A dried sprig of rosemary
A small bit of dried fruit
1 drop of sandalwood oil
A match to light it (not a lighter!)
Combine everything in your cauldron (it is fire-proof, right?), adding the drop of oil last. Repeat the words,

By this cauldron, I do cast
Rising flames that will last
Power bring and power rise
Make magick in my eyes.

Light the paper and repeat the words again while it burns. Have an open window handy nearby as it will definitely give off some smoke. If you’re worried about smoke inside, you can do this outdoors as long as you’re still close to home.

Water Scrying

Waters Deep

You can’t really talk about cauldron spells without looking at water scrying. All you need is:

Your cauldron
Pinch of dried mugwort
A silver ring or coin
Pure water
Fill up your cauldron, adding the piece of silver and a bit of mugwort. Let it sit for 1 hour and then try your scrying. Do not touch the cauldron and keep movements around it to a minimum. The water has to be as still as possible. Remove bright lights, and use a candle to reduce the glare.

Look into the surface of the water and concentrate on a question or situation you need help with. Let your eyes get a little unfocused and watch for images or symbols to appear in the water. It should help you find some guidance.

It can take some practice to get good at water scrying but it’s a wonderfully magickal way to use a cauldron.

Different ways of Scrying

THE ART OF SCRYING WITH
CRYSTALS AND CRYSTAL SKULLS

Scrying, also known as crystal gazing or crystallomancy, allows one to see psychic visions or impressions in a particular medium, such as a crystal ball or polished black surface such as black obsidian or golden obsidian or a scrying mirror. Scrying is a powerful psychic tool. It can bring hidden knowledge and clairvoyant ability and can act as a portal to other planes of existence.

For centuries, many cultures around the world have used scrying techniques for divining the past, present and future. History shows its use in many of the traditional mystery schools and oracular temples, and Nostradamus used scrying with a bowl of water to foresee the future. This powerful tool is now even being used for therapeutic purposes, as Dr. Raymond Moody has utilized scrying techniques to allow people to access an altered state of consciousness so they can connect with the spirit world and departed loved ones.

Scrying is the art of gazing into or upon a crystal (or a dark mirror-like surface such as polished obsidian), allowing the physical eyes to relax, and letting the inner psychic eyes open to receive desired visions or information. Scrying tools allow one to achieve the state of mind required for entering trance, acting as a focal point for visualization, which can become a doorway into the astral plane. Scrying allows communication with higher realms, the subconscious self, and access to Akashic record (which contains the record of the soul, and information about All That Is, all that has been, and all that will be). Accessing the Akashic record can offer a vast source of timeless knowledge.

A clear crystal ball or clear crystal skull are wonderful tools for scrying, as are dark polished crystals such as obsidian. With scrying, a person has the ability to focus intent in order to receive visions and desired information. Scrying can provide a connection with one’s guides who can lead the scryer in astral travel and mental journeying through crystal gazing. Scrying develops one’s clairvoyant abilities and is especially helpful in strengthening the third eye.
Scrying Can Be Used To:

Receive clairvoyant visions
Access the Akashic Record for yourself or others
Contact spirits and spirit guides
Access knowledge from higher realms
Heal yourself and others
Receive and transmit energy and information
Divine the past, present and future
Access a portal to the astral plane
Experience shamanic journeying

HOW TO BEGIN SCRYING

Choose to sit where you will be comfortable for at least 20 minutes. Make sure that you are in a quiet place where will not be disturbed or distracted.
Create a sacred space in a dark room for your scrying session, with the only light being from a white candle or a dim light source behind you and below you. Place your crystal at a comfortable level in front of you so that the light is not reflecting into your crystal. (Some people may prefer to have two candles on either side of the crystal)
Set your intention for the session of what you are seeking to experience.
Close your eyes and visualize a bubble of white light completely surrounding you and your crystal. Imagine that the entire room you are in is filled with the light of love and protection. Visualize a circle of protection around you and know that you are safe and in control of all that happens within it.
Call upon your guides, guardians and angels, and ask to be shown all that is for the highest and best good of all for you to see and to know. Feel your guides loving and supporting you on this journey.
Ask to be given access to the highest levels of the Akashic Record.
Imagine your crystal filled with light and surrounded by light. Call upon the guides, guardians and masters of the crystal to guide you through a gentle healing journey to access all that you need and desire to know, to see and to experience.
Once you are ready, close your eyes and begin to relax. Breathe slowly and deeply into your abdomen. With each breath in, feel yourself relaxing more and more. Each time you exhale, feel every part of your body releasing, relieved of all tension.
Begin to breath rhythmically and fully; try a count of four in, hold four, release four; four in, hold four, release four and so on.
Feel yourself entering a light trance surrounded by sacred space, removed from time and the material world. Silently call your guides, guardians and angels, thanking them for their love, guidance and protection, and reaffirm your desire, intention and purpose.
Now open your physical eyes and gaze into the crystal; remain relaxed and do not hesitate to blink when necessary. Peer deeply into the crystal, or try relaxing your gaze and looking a few inches beyond the crystal. If working with a crystal skull, look deeply into its eyes, or turn it around and look into or beyond its cranium. Do not stare intently, but instead simply gaze into or beyond the crystal in a gentle manner, allowing your eyes to relax. Your eyelids may want to close halfway, which is fine.
Create a conscious link between your third eye and the crystal by visualizing a ray of light coming out of your third eye and entering the crystal.
Relax the focus of your eyes but remain alert. After a while, the surface of the crystal will begin to change and fade; a mist, clouding or fog may appear.
Your inner eyes will now open, and your crystal journey begins. Remember that the inner eye sees inside the mind, through the imagination. Most people when scrying do not see the images appear with their physical eyes in the crystal, but see within the crystal and in the mind’s eye. The crystal acts as a focal point, a gateway within. The images can morph into other images, they can be symbols, or they may be actual pictures of events – past, present or future. Try not to judge or control the images, just allow it to flow.
Keep your mind blank except if you have a specific question to ask, then relax and allow the answer to appear and be shown to you.
Do not scry for more than 20 minutes at first.

When you have completed your journey or the work you set out to do, begin to return to your body and ordinary senses. Breathe fully and deeply, and remain still until you feel you have completely returned. Feel yourself stretching into your body, embodying every cell. Now close your eyes and remember all you saw and felt during the scrying or journey. Review your entire experience mentally, and write it all down immediately.

To Begin To See

This is a very important exercise to master if you are new to scrying or are having trouble receiving images. It will aid your “visual imagination,” which allows your psychic and physical eyes to see clearly together. It promotes clairvoyant strength; it gives discipline and strengthens the inner eye so visions can come with clarity and ease.
.
Sit in front of your crystal and begin to imagine objects on its surface and within it, one after another. You should try to see these images clearly in the crystal with your eyes open, just as if they were there in reality. Try simple shapes or colors first. Hold onto the image of each shape, object or color one minute before dissolving it and going on to the next. For example, use a red triangle, a yellow square, a blue circle and silver crescent; see them appear in the crystal using your firm imagination. For best results, do this exercise every day for 15 minutes until it is mastered.

For centuries scrying has been practiced by adepts and novices alike, by witches, magicians, sorcerers, priestesses, priests, kings and queens, many different tools were used, sacred vessels, pieces of glass, bowls of water, crystal balls, crystals and so on. What is revealed to the scryer is not always easy to distinguish and images, symbols or messages can be fuzzy, hazy and unclear. Our Guardian Angels and Spirit Guides often offer us assistance when we are scrying, by way of symbols, messages any imagery. We can consult with the God or Goddess energies and other deities, who can offer guidance through there infinite wisdom. The future always holds many variables and the future revealed when scrying is influenced by our choices, universal shifts beyond our manipulations, and the action or inaction of those with whom we interact.

The predictably changeable quality of the future, can through practice become clearer as our skills are honed, and through careful and cautious study and contemplation of the symbols, images and messages received, effective choices can be made. Thus our carefully calculated and implemented actions can holistically influence our destiny. Witches are adept scryers and at a glance are able to discern and interpret what is revealed to them, in whatever form it is presented.

The earliest uses of crystals and gemstones comes from the Druids to gain knowledge of their future, the Scottish Highlanders referred to them as the “stones of power.” During the middle ages crystal balls were considered precious items, and skilled scryers often passed them on to their apprentices. Apache medicine men used clear quartz crystals to induce visions and the Yucatan scryers placed a mystical reverence on the clear quartz crystals. The goddess Hathor carried a shield which reflected things in their true light, from this shield she was able to create the first magic mirror used for scrying. The Ancient Persians used the Cup of Jamshid, along with wizards and those involved with occult practices, with this they were able to observe the seven layers of the universe. The cup was filled with the elixir of immortality. The ancient Celts and Greeks used beryl tools, crystal, black glass, water and clear quartz. Romans used any shiny objects and crystals. Nostradamus used a bowl of water for scrying as he gazed into this and saw into the future. The Alchemists John Dee and Edward Kelley, used a crystal ball or polished obsidian.

Communication with Divine Energy takes place when someone is scrying, crystals have, are and will continue to be used for communication. Crystals are favoured by diviners because of their symmetry and are important tools for all those who practice the art of scrying.

Art of Scrying

Scrying can be an auto-deepening trance process that progresses in stages using tools such as a crystal ball, or other medium. Initially, the medium serves as a focus for the attention, removing unwanted thoughts from the mind in the same way as a mantra. Once this is achieved, the scryer begins a free association with the perceived images suggested, for instance in a crystal ball, by the tiny inclusions, web-like faults and/or the cloudy glow within the ball under low light (i.e. candlelight).

The technique of deliberately looking for and declaring these initial images aloud, however trivial or irrelevant they may seem to the conscious mind, is done with the intent of deepening the trance state, wherein the scryer hears their own disassociated voice affirming what is seen within the concentrated state in a kind of feedback loop. This process culminates in the achievement of a final and desired end stage in which visual images and dramatic stories seem to be projected within the mind’s eye of the scryer, like an inner movie. This overall process reputedly allows the scryer to “see” relevant events or images within the chosen medium.

Scrying has been used for thousands of years by different cultures. Ancient Egypt used scrying in their Initiations. This included water scrying, dream scrying, oil scrying, and mirror scrying. One legend states that the goddess Hathor carried a shield that could reflect back all things in their true light. From this shield she allegedly fashioned the first magic mirror to “see.”

Ancient Persia — the Shahnama, a semi-historical epic work written in the late 10th century, gives a description of what was called the Cup of Jamshid, used in pre-Islamic Persia, which was used by wizards and practitioners of the esoteric sciences for observing all the seven layers of the universe.

Ancient Greeks and Celts practiced scrying using beryl, crystal, black glass, polished quartz, water, and other transparent or light catching bodies. Nostradamus is believed to have employed a small bowl of water as a scrying tool into which he gazed and received images of future events. Alchemists Edward Kelley and John Dee employed a form of scrying using a small crystal ball or shewstone – a piece of polished obsidion. The crystal ball and wax tablets used by Dee and Kelley are on display at the British Museum in London.

Scrying is the occult practice of using a medium, most commonly a reflective surface or translucent body, to aid perceived psychic abilities such as clairvoyance. The media often used to “see” are water, polished precious stones, crystal balls, or mirrors. Scrying, in this context, uses a “visual” process. There are some who believe the art of scrying is not limited to the use of “reflective” or “translucent” bodies only, but includes other media. Scrying has been used in many cultures as a means of seeing the past, present, or future; in this sense scrying constitutes a form of divination.
Scrying & divination
How many times have you watched the clouds drifting by in the sky, seeing faces and shapes in them? Have you ever stared blankly at a wall, ceiling, or floor and seen faces and shapes move across them?

That is scrying. (kind of) 😉 It means getting into a relaxed, meditative state and focusing on the shapes and symbols we see, and trying to interpret what meaning they may have for us.

Scrying is a form of divination, which means “fortelling the future,” but it is also a great tool to use for personal growth and guidance. Not just for the future, but for the present time, as well as the past.

You can find solutions to problems you are struggling with, learn more about your past lives, and of course, see glimpses of the future too. Scrying and divination are not just for witches and spiritual workers either, anyone can do it.

As with any form of divination, we are opening ourselves to Spirit, and it is always a wise choice to ask for protection from God, our angels or spirit guides before we begin. We cannot always control what comes through to us, but our spiritual protectors can. Surround yourself with white light and say a prayer of protection and guidance before scrying, or performing any magickal workings.

There are different methods of scrying, but all use the same basic technique:

Water scrying

Water scrying is done by filling a vessel with water, (a dark blue or black vessel works best) and gazing down into the bottom of the vessel, through the water. (Some prefer to gaze at the surface of the water, and probably either way works just as well.)

Crystal scrying

Crystal scrying is when you use a crystal ball or a scrying mirror. Crystal balls and scrying mirrors come in various colors and sizes. Some people choose to use a darker color like black or blue, some prefer clear quartz, or even a plain table or wall mirror. My opinion is that the tools are not nearly as important as developing your ability. The ball, water or mirror simply gives you a focal point
How to Scry

Scrying is incredibly easy to do, it just takes practice. The objective is to “see” things in the mirror, crystal ball or water. First dim the lights in the room, and light some candles and soothing incense. It’s best if there are no bright lights because you want your physical eyes to take a backseat to your psychic sight.

Take a few minutes to get into a relaxed, meditative state. Take some slow, deep breaths and release all tension from your body. When you feel calm and centered, focus on the mirror, crystal ball or container of water.

Don’t try to rush the process, stay very relaxed and keep your eyes slightly out of focus. Don’t strain or try to force it. Let your thoughts flow where they will. If you wish, you can also communicate with your spirit guides, ask them questions, and then watch for any images that appear.

You might not see anything the first few times you do this, but keep at it, you will eventually. The more you practice scrying and related psychic work, the more quickly you can get into that relaxed state and notice even subtle impressions.

Deciphering Symbols

If you did see images, write them down. In fact, it’s a great idea to keep a “Scrying Journal” or “Divination Journal” when you’re first getting started. It can help to keep records because the meaning of the symbols might become apparent later.

If you did ask your guides questions, jot them in your journal along with any images you saw. Do the images make any sense to you? Can they be applied to circumstances in your life? Even if you’re not sure on the “known” meaning of the symbols, you can still apply their characteristics to your own situation.

Here are a few examples:

Dog – dogs typically represent friendship and loyalty, or aggression (depending on whether the dog you saw was snarling or friendly). Does this refer to someone in your life, or the type of friend you are? Have you been “snapping” at people lately?

Car – All vehicles usually represent travel, movement and progress. Was the car/boat/train moving backward or forward? Backward might indicate blockages, as do crashes. Most likely, seeing a car crash does not mean you will be in a car crash. It could mean you are stuck, unable to move forward in a particular aspect of your life, or you feel out of control.

Rainbow – rainbows are typically seen as a sign of hope, joy, peace, blessings, or a new beginning. If you are going through a particularly rough period in your life, this could be a sign that things are going to get better soon.

Don’t take the symbols literally, because most often they are symbolic. Instead, think about the qualities of whatever you’re seeing.

What words would you use to describe each symbol? Can any of those words be applied to you or your life at this moment? If not, just write them down and see if they come clearer in time.

Psychic Sense

Also pay attention to your psychic sense as you scry. When you see an image, how does it feel? That can be a good indication of the intended meaning.

Don’t be afraid to ask your guides for help either. Tell them you don’t understand the meaning, and ask them to give you another symbol that you might understand more easily.

Other Forms of Divination

Tea leaf reading is very similar to scrying, except you are reading the remnants of tea leaves in the bottom of a cup. You pay attention to any symbols or shapes that appear in the leaves, and divine their meanings. Again, seeing a vehicle might mean travel; seeing a ring might mean an upcoming marriage, and so on.

You don’t have to limit yourself to tea leaves though, you can read just about anything that has pattern and texture to it. Carpet, stone, patterns of leaves in the trees, etc.

Practice as much as you can with as many methods as you can, and see how you progress.

Remember that scrying is a learned skill. Simply open yourself to the messages of Spirit that come through as symbolic images. They can appear almost anywhere. You just have to take time to notice them.

How to Make Your Own Scrying Mirror

A friend of mine heard about this technique somewhere, and I loved it!

Go to any store that sells picture frames (with the glass in it). The dollar store has quite a few. Get whatever size you want. Buy a can of “high gloss” black paint. Remove the glass and clean with windex. Spray one side of the glass and let dry for about 12 hours. Let it sit/lean on something.

After 12 hours have passed, spray on more high gloss black paint. Let dry another 10-12 hours and then place the glass back into the frame. You now have your very own black scrying mirror. You can spend under five dollars to make your own.

We made our own, and had a blast doing it.
Scrying pendulum
It is used in a variety of ways. The simplest thing you can use it for is to answer questions that can’t otherwise be answered. They can also be used for the following purposes:

Healing and detecting allergies
To cleanse your surrounding from the negativity
To help find lost objects
These purposes can easily and effectively be achieved using a pendulum dowsing.
The big question is, how do pendulums really work? For them to work, you need to awaken your intuition and sixth sense. The pendulum works as a transmitter as well as a receiver to receive signals from the spiritual realm. It works best with “Yes” and “No” questions. As it moves, you get your answers. It helps you make decisions and know what is now yet known!

You can always question that the pendulum is moving just because of the hand movements of the person holding it. And yes, you can be right! But, you have to try it to know whether that is true or not. Once you start the process of pendulum dowsing, you will know that it is not the hand movements, but the pendulum itself that moves to provide you answers.
